The story of POWDERHORN begins in the deep, snow-covered forests of Wyoming, in a little place called Jackson Hole in the western Rocky Mountains. It’s inspired by the impressive Teton Range, a mountain range that is considered one of the most rugged and majestic areas in the world for skiers and mountaineers. When the most modern cable car of the time was unveiled there in 1965, the whole world had ski fever. Skiing became synonymous with unlimited freedom, adventure and wild romance.

For this extreme landscape, normal skiwear was no longer sufficient. So in 1972, in a backyard workshop on his parents’ farm, a passionate skier named John Horn created an iconic item of clothing that exists in exactly the same form today: a functional down vest with hand-punched copper buttons and robust leather patches. With its western look guaranteeing a high level of comfort and long-term durability. This was followed by snow-proof western jackets that became a must-have companion for all skiing buffs – for example, the Jackson Hole ski patrol wore the POWDERHORN Jackets with the distinctive leather patches as a uniform for many years.
